That is the silliest question I have heard so far today. Of course we do. Duh. Well, okay maybe not, but for the most part yes. Sure there are plenty of ways to get from one place to another, but there is nothing like having your own car…unless of course you enjoy taking the bus and sitting next to some random person who wants to tell you their life story in the whopping 20 minute drive from one city to the next that you get to enjoy together. Run-on sentence? You betcha.
But, think about your first car. How cool was that time? Getting into a car that was totally yours, where you could put all your stuff including your friends, swing around town and go wherever you want to. How much fun was that?
Even for those of us who had a car that we didn’t even like that much, it didn’t matter, driving a car was still the magic part. I had a Ford Explorer. I think it was, a…um, I don’t know what year actually. Maybe a 1999? It was gold and had sun damage on the paint, BUT it was an SUV. Hells yes it was. I’m in high school and I get a big ‘ol SUV. No reason to drive some small sedan thing. I felt like Tim The Tool Man Taylor… “Raah Rahhh Raahhaha”.
I don’t know what I would do without a car now. The most I have gone without one is a month and a half. That sucked. I couldn’t really take public transportation; not the way this island is laid out. I mean, I could have taken a train that would have taken me about 30 mins to walk to the station then take the train for another 10-20 mins, and then get a ride from one of the stations to work. Not exactly an easy thing to do either.
Driving a car is definitely a luxury, and we should all be grateful for having the chance to own our own cars, even the crappy ones. I know there are places like these online classifieds that you can go to take a look at what is available and maybe get a better car. Plenty of dealerships offer great cars and great prices, so there is no reason to not upgrade if you want to.
